Rotary Islanders for January

The Mercer Island Rotary Club named MIHS seniors Kirbi Phillips and David Emanuels its Islanders of the Month.

The Mercer Island Rotary Club named Mercer Island High School seniors Kirbi Phillips and David Emanuels its Islanders of the Month for January.

Phillips is the daughter of Abby Stern and Tom Phillips. She has served as a member of the Mercer Island High School athletic leadership committee, the ASB spirit commissioner and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also is a member of the cheer team, a girls water polo team captain and was a captain on the girls swim team this year. Outside of school, Phillips has been involved with National Charity League, VOICE and City of Hope. After high school, Phillips plans to study civil engineering and geological sciences.

Emanuels is the son of Brian and Anne Emanuels, and has been a varsity captain for both the football and basketball teams at Mercer Island. He has participated in Safe Rides, Relay For Life, peer tutoring, was a volunteer coach at the Ogata Youth Football Camp and a coach for Little Dribblers Youth Basketball Camp. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Schools Against Cancer club, a participant in VOICE, and was on the Rotary Club Student of the Month selection committee last year. Emanuels was a summer volunteer at the UW Medical Center, involved with the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services food drive and with the Cedar River watershed restoration. After high school, Emanuels hopes to play football in college and attend medical  school.
