Baseball suffers first loss
Interlake evened its two-game stand with Mercer Island Wednesday, edging the Islanders 4-3 at Island Crest Park.
The Saints (3-5) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to stay in front of Mercer Island (7-1, 5-1), who committed five errors in the game. Michael Petrie went 2-2 for the Islanders, hitting a home run and drawing two walks.
Next, Mercer Island hosts Lake Washington at 7 p.m. Friday, April 3 at Island Crest Park.
Sammamish crushes fastpitch
Mercer Island fastpitch fell to Sammamish 16-4 Wednesday at South Mercer Playfields.
Mariah Smith went 4-4 at the plate to help lead the Totems (1-5, 2-6) to its first KingCo win. Camryn Steiner batted 2-3 for the Islanders (0-2, 2-4).
Mercer Island will take on Liberty at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at South Mercer Playfields.
