Second education summit planned for April 23

Second education summit planned for April 23

The Mercer Island School District will host a second education summit at 7 p.m. on April 23 in the multi-purpose room at Islander Middle School to discuss the budget reductions for the 2009-2010 school year.

The district will release preliminary program and staff reductions during this week’s School Board meeting on April 16. The Budget Reduction Plan will be finalized during a special meeting on April 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Crest Learning Center.

District officials encourage people with questions and ideas about the process to e-mail questions@misd.wednet.edu.

Student art

Five Mercer Island High School art students will showcase their talents during the Washington State High School Metal Arts Exhibition at North Seattle Community College beginning this week.

Anthea Cho, Claire Goetschel, Erin Bartlett, Arielle Weinstein and Jennifer Hoang will each compete in the Passing the Torch 2009 show, with pieces created during Cyndy Jensen’s advanced metal design class.

The exhibition opened on April 14 and runs through May 8. There is an open house, art department tour and awards ceremony on April 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. Pieces entered are eligible for first, second and third places with three honorable mention awards in the categories of jewelry and sculpture, as well as holloware.
