School District to use March 16 as makeup day

The Mercer Island School District will hold classes on Monday, March 16 to make up for the day that was missed Sept. 29 due to the boil advisory.

The Mercer Island School District will hold classes on Monday, March 16 to make up for the day that was missed Sept. 29. All schools, programs and transportation will operate on a normal Monday schedule.

The school day was canceled so the MISD maintenance and operations team could implement King County Health procedures to sanitize all facilities throughout the day after the lifting of the city-wide boil advisory alert stemming from E. coli bacteria being found in Mercer Island water samples by Seattle Public Utilities. The alert was lifted at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29 and the Department of Health inspected and cleared schools, including kitchens, on Monday afternoon.

March 16 is the first of three dates identified on the student calendar as a potential makeup day for weather-related or other school closures.
