Seattle Symphony to perform composition by Islander Christina Sun

Mercer Island High School student and composer Christina Sun will have her work premiered by the Seattle Symphony on April 30.

The inspiring talent of tomorrow’s composers will be heard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Benaroya Hall’s Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Islander Christina Sun, a senior at Mercer Island High School, will join nine other Seattle-area teenage composers who will have their music premiered by Seattle Symphony musicians and friends at the culmination of the 2013 Merriman Family Young Composers Workshop.

For 12 weeks, these students developed new works under the guidance of workshop director and composer Samuel Jones.

Sun is a senior at Mercer Island High School. This is her third year participating in the Young Composers Workshop. She plays the piano and flute, and has been composing for seven years under Sharon Van Valin.
