Sarah Elizabeth Shrum and Paul William Messenger, both of Portland, Ore., are engaged to be married on April 4 in Portland.

The future bride is the daughter of Terry and Jeff Shrum, of Portland. She graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts in sports marketing. She is now employed as an allocation planner at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

The future groom is the son of Bill and Joan Messenger, of Mercer Island, and Fred and Mary Carol Britt, of Portland, Ore. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He is employed as an inside salesman at Beltservice Corporation in Portland.

Ms. Shrum and Mr. Messenger met in 2004 after they both returned to Portland upon graduating from college.
