Six car prowls reported in one day on Mercer Island | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

July 3

THEFT: A woman, who had been gone for a week, found that her roadside mailbox was bent and her mail had been stolen when she returned home at 9:57 a.m. in the 5600 block of W. Mercer Way.

BURGLARY: A suspect was caught riding away on a victim’s mother’s bicycle at 7:34 p.m. in the 8000 block of SE 37th Place. He was chased, dumped the bike and kept walking, and the bike was returned to its owner.

July 6

FRAUD: A woman in the 3200 block of S. 38th St. said at 8:10 a.m. that her husband’s name was used to pass fraudulent checks.

PROWLING: A car was prowled overnight in the 7800 block of SE 27th St. The rear driver’s side window was shattered and a gym bag, containing workout clothes and shoes, was stolen.

PROWL x2: A woman heard her car alarm going off at 9:45 a.m. in the 5600 block of 89th Ave. SE. Someone had prowled her vehicle, stealing a lunch bag and Tupperware.

x3: A victim’s vehicle was prowled on the second level of a parking garage in the 2600 block of 76th Ave. SE overnight. The rear window was shattered, and a backpack was stolen. There were no obvious signs of other prowls in the garage, according to police.

x4: An unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 7000 block of 80th Ave. SE. was prowled overnight. A 110v inverter and a wallet containing credit cards, a driver’s license and a CPL (concealed pistol license) were stolen.

x5: A man said at 12:10 p.m. that his unlocked vehicle was prowled in a parking garage in the 2600 block of 77th Ave. SE, and his cell phone was stolen.

x6: Malicious mischief and theft were reported with a car prowl at 3:59 p.m. in the 2600 block of 77th Ave. SE. A handicap placard was stolen.

THEFT: Mail belonging to two different Mercer Island residences in the Avalon Drive area was found in the bushes in the 7800 block of Island Crest Way at 4:25 p.m.

July 7

PROWLING: A vehicle was reported prowled at 9:24 a.m. in the 4200 block of Holly Lane, and an Adidas bag containing two wallets was stolen.

DUI: A driver was stopped for traffic violations and reckless driving at 8:04 p.m. in the 7800 block of SE 27th St. The driver had alcohol on their breath, failed sobriety tests and provided BAC readings of 0.199 and 0.214.

July 10

THEFT: A man in the 7400 block of W. Mercer Way said at 12:17 p.m. that someone broke into his roadside mailbox and may have stolen mail.
