The City’s solar installation campaign has drawn over 100 attendees at its first two workshops, and three more workshops remain through the rest of summer, with the next scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Tuesday August 12, at the Community and Events Center. Click here for a public workshop schedule or to register. All attendees become eligible for a free site assessment.
The Solarize Mercer Island goal is to bring onboard 30 to 60 homes and businesses. The first installations are already live and producing power, just six weeks after the official campaign launch. Many dozens of other contracts are about to be signed. The campaign’s first commercial installation will soon be underway at the Mercer Island Auto Spa (2730 80th Avenue S.E.). Owner Suzanne Skone considered the opportunity an easy financial decision, in addition to the many other environmental measures that are a foundation of her 20-year-old business. A ribbon-cutting event is planned for Friday, August 8 between 1 and 2 p.m.
