MIHS water polo coach of the year

Mercer Island High School boys water polo coach, Adam Massmann, was named the 2009 Washington state water polo coach of the year, following the state tournament three weeks ago in Federal Way. Massmann, in his second year as head coach, graduated from MIHS in 2004, after playing water polo for the Islanders for three years. He helped lead the team to four consecutive state titles during his time as a student and went on to play water polo in college at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Island resident, Seattle Prep senior finishes at state swim

Flora Muglia, a Mercer Island resident and senior at Seattle Prep, recently completed her senior swim season, competing at the state meet on Nov. 13-14 in Federal Way.

Muglia finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle event, tying with Mercer Island High School junior Lauren Poli with a time of 24.80 seconds. In the 100-yard freestyle, Muglia finished ninth overall with a time of 55.08.

The Seattle Prep team finished the event in 22nd place with 22.5 points.
