LaxPower taps Shields for mention

Mercer Island High School’s Daniel Shields was named in an honorable mention to this year’s LaxPower All-Western Region team. The online lacrosse news and ranking Web site selected Shield after he led the Islanders’ attack last season to a state championship final. The team finished last season with an 18-5 record overall.

Islander kickers All-State selections

Sportswriters from across the state included Mercer Island in the honors for this year’s all-state boys soccer teams.

Selected as representatives of the 3A division, Mercer Island midfielder Chris Morris, defender Jed Jacobson and goalkeeper Forrest Marowitz were named as first team picks, while defender Matt Johnson was selected as a second team selection.

Forward Danny Strome received an honorable mention.

The selections were announced by the Tri-City Herald on June 26. Unlike the other all-state honors which are voted on for each conference, the awards are decided by balloting local media.
