Still time left to donate soccer balls to South African youth

There is still time to bring those unused soccer balls rolling around under the bed or in the garage to Albertsons to donate to South African towns whose kids do not have balls to play their national game.

There is still time to bring those unused soccer balls rolling around under the bed or in the garage to Albertsons to donate to South African towns whose kids do not have balls to play their national game.

Islanders Mike and Linda Wandell were inspired to collect the balls after visiting the country for the World Cup.

One Island boy took this to heart when he celebrated his 8th birthday.

Jonah Hyman, a Mercer Island soccer player, had requested that his guests bring balls, instead of gifts, to his birthday party.

The birthday boy, assisted by his sister Alexandra, together brought the balls to the store.

The Wandells hope to have 100 balls (the current estimate is 40-50) before they send the balls off to South Africa. You can find the collection bin at the front of the Albertsons store.
