We appreciate fellow Mercer Islanders who step up to serve on our City Council.  At the same time, we feel the community is best served when we have the opportunity to have new voices on the Council, especially on such important issues as the I-90 tolling. On this critical issue, our community, off-Island clientele, and employers are deeply concerned about the prospect of tolling.

Kevin Scheid, the clear No Tolling candidate for a seat on the City Council, states that “No one should have to pay a toll on one road to finance another road.”

Kevin’s approach to I-90 tolls makes sense and will prevent tolls for everyone. His opponent’s “fair toll” approach will compromise our legal defense and ensure that everyone is tolled! We’re for No Tolls, not “fair tolls.”

Kevin Scheid has managed multi-million dollar budgets, and is vice president of a Mercer Island-based firm specializing in leadership and management consulting. He has an engineering degree from the Coast Guard Academy and an MBA from Purdue University. Kevin’s leadership has been felt as well on Mercer Island, where he has coached Boys & Girls Club sports, served as a member of the High School Site Committee, was a member of the interview committee for the high school principal, and has chaired the Mercer Island Girls Lacrosse Board. As 19-year residents, Kevin and his wife, Bobette, are strong advocates for the schools where all four of their children attended, and graduated from Mercer Island High School. Bobette Scheid is also a community leader serving as the current president of the Mercer Island Women’s Club.

Former Mercer Island mayor and state senator Jim Horn, in addition to City Councilmembers Mike Grady and Mike Cero, endorse Kevin. Councilmember Cero stated, “Political leaders outside Mercer Island are watching this election. They will see a Scheid win as a signal Islanders are committed to stopping I-90 tolling.”
