A Starbucks customer bought coffee with a counterfeit $20 bill July 15 on S.E. 27th Street. Police say they will make surveillance video of the suspect available.

A Starbucks customer bought coffee with a counterfeit $20 bill around 12:30 p.m. on July 15 in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street. The customer received change back. The Starbucks manager was able to track the transaction after finding the bill while counting the till. A surveillance video of the suspect will be made available, according to the police report.

The Mercer Island Police Department reported 1,132 calls for service during the month of June, with 20 thefts, 1 auto theft, 6 burglaries, 2 cases of simple assault, 1 case of aggravated assault, 3 traffic accidents, 4 DUI arrests, 2 hit-and-run accidents, 1 bike accident, 29 criminal traffic citations, 47 parking citations, and 365 total citations. Police made 24 arrests.

June 28

Red light accident: A collision occurred in the intersection of S.E. 40th Street and Island Crest Way at 4:46 p.m. when a pickup truck made a left turn on a red light. The pickup struck an oncoming sedan traveling southbound at 35 mph through a green light. Both drivers were under 21, and the driver of the pickup was cited for failing to obey the traffic control device. There were no injuries and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

July 1

Harassment: During a property and easement negotiation, a 50-year-old man was hit in the arm by a lawyer, a 54-year-old Mercer Island man, representing the other party. The victim was not injured. The incident occurred at 11:15 a.m. in the 8600 block of North Mercer Way.

July 8

Theft: An iPhone belonging to a 33-year-old Mercer Island man was stolen at Mercerdale Park after 5 p.m. The man returned to the park 10 minutes after dropping it, but it was gone. He called the phone twice but could not locate it. The loss was $450.

July 10

Fender-bender: A Covington driver was cited for inattention after striking an unoccupied, parked sedan during Summer Celebration at 12:15 p.m. in the parking lot at 3023 78th Ave. S.E. The driver said he was navigating a crowded parking lot and looked to his left, but not to his right, in order to avoid a parked vehicle.Abandoned kayak: Marine patrol recovered a 12-foot kayak from Meydenbauer Bay after 3:30 p.m. and placed it into MIPD found property.

July 11

Car prowl: A Volvo sedan was broken into sometime between 2 p.m. and 3:44 p.m. at the main Luther Burbank Park lot in the 2000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. A bag was stolen from the back seat after the front passenger window was shattered. The bag contained house keys. A swimming suit, tanning lotion and Coach wallet were also stolen.

July 12

Burglary: A residence in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way was burglarized between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The burglar(s) broke a plate glass window in the basement with a foot stone to enter the house. They stole nine checkbooks for nine separate bank accounts along with a laptop computer, and left through the front door.

July 14

Assault: A 50-year-old Mercer Island man assaulted his ex-wife, 49, with a Taser at 6:30 p.m. at a residence near Luther Burbank Park. The man assaulted her after breaking into the house and waiting for her to return. Their daughter, 15, called police while the assault was in progress and the man fled from the scene. Police contained the house and detectives processed the crime scene. The suspect surrendered himself at the MIPD with his lawyer present and was booked into the King County Jail for assault in the second degree and burglary in the first degree. The suspect’s vehicle was impounded to be searched with a warrant. There were three witnesses of the incident.
