A Mercer Island resident and former Islander student, Kevin Velasco, died from a possible drug overdose Monday morning in Issaquah.

Velasco, 18, was taken to Swedish Medical Center in the Issaquah Highlands early Monday morning, July 14. According to hospital officials, the teen was declared dead on arrival at approximately 7:15 a.m.

According to Mercer Island School District officials, Velasco was a student at Mercer Island High School between 2011 and 2012.

The death is under investigation. Toxicology reports are still pending from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
