Ten from Mercer Island head to district meet | Track and field

Ten members of the Mercer Island track and field team will compete in this week’s District track competition following last week’s KingCo meet. Athletes finishing in the top five at their event in the KingCo meet moved on to this Wednesday’s preliminary event.

Overall the girls team finish fourth overall with a score of 90 and the boys took fifth with a score of 88.

The District competition will be held at the Southwest Complex in West Seattle. The preliminaries will be on May 18 and the finals will be on May 20. The first events will begin at 4 p.m.

In the girls competition Carly Andersen won the javelin with a throw of 114 feet and 8 inches, and took second in the discus with a 95’11 throw.

Teammate and captain Cora Miller won the 100 (16.51) and 300 meter hurdle (48.12) races, while Alida Scalzo moved to districts with a fourth place finish in the 1,600 meter race. Mikayla Davis was second with a time of 11:47.67.

In the boys meet Reid Jackson took fifth in the javelin at 171’01 and was second in the long jump with 21’00.5. John Hammerstrom was third in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.57 and Tyler Goolsby finish third in the 800 meter race at 2:00.16. Teammate Eric Schultz was close behind in fourth place with a time of 2:00.18. Aaron Elefson was second in the 1,600 meter race, while taking first in the 3,200 meters. Nick Ford was third in the 1,600 meters and second in the 3,200.
