Two homes on East Mercer Way were broken into during daylight hours on Nov. 15. A ground floor window was smashed and a wooden door in the hot tub room was broken to gain entry into one home in the 5600 block between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The thief stole $7,500 worth of jewelry — necklaces, bracelets, earrings and watches stored in wooden jewelry boxes, along with a Dell laptop. The resident, a 59-year-old woman, had left the house early in the morning. The house alarm was set, but the motion sensors were not activated. A friend visited at 3 p.m. and turned off the alarm after entering the house, then waited for the resident, who returned at 3:30 p.m. and found a TV on upstairs left on.

Another home in the 4600 block of East Mercer Way was burgled between 11 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. $85,000 worth of jewelry, coins and electronics, including a Rolex watch and laptop computer, in addition to credit cards and documents, were stolen. The laundry room window and door were damaged, and the thief left dirty shoe prints on the carpets.

Another burglary occurred in the 4200 block of 89th Avenue S.E. when a Motorola cell phone and two electric guitars worth $3,250 were stolen from a storage shed. The theft occurred sometime on Nov. 13 or 14 between the evening and morning hours.
