Less than three weeks since a water main break occurred and caused significant damage to a section of East Mercer Way, crews have made “excellent progress” on the repair front, according to the city of Mercer Island. In a social media post on Aug. 27, the city said it is nearing completion on the emergency project to replace a 220-foot section of damaged water main. Crews are currently flushing the system and conducting water quality testing, and the five impacted residences are expected to have their water service restored later this week or early next week once water quality standards are verified. In the road realm, one lane is now open between Southeast 76th Street and the north end of Clarke Beach Park, restoring limited access through a section that was previously closed to all traffic. “Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians should exercise caution and obey the traffic signals as the area remains an active construction zone. Intermittent closures may still be necessary as construction wraps up,” the city said. For more information about the project and latest updates, visit: https://orlo.uk/bEypH.
