Seattle Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce that we are a recipient of a grant from the Mercer Island Community Fund, supporting our annual Wooden O free “Shakespeare in the Park” series. We are only able to offer our productions at no charge to the community due to to the great support we receive from organizations like the Mercer Island Community Fund.

This summer, Wooden O will celebrate its 21st anniversary, marking more than two decades of bringing award-winning, professional and classical theater to the broadest audience possible. Our productions this summer include “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,”  and “Julius Caesar.” Performances will take place in 11 cities across Puget Sound.

Mercer Island is the original home of Wooden O and Luther Burbank Park is still our anchor venue, hosting 19 performances during July and August this summer.

Wooden O was founded by Mercer Island High School graduate, George Mount. The company merged with the Seattle Shakespeare Company in 2008, allowing both groups to better pursue a mission of uplifting and accessible classical theater. In 2011, Mr. Mount became Seattle Shakespeare’s artistic director.

We continue to work closely with the Mercer Island Arts Council, the Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department and other civic funders to bring outstanding productions to the Island. We are very grateful to the Mercer Island Community Fund and thank them for their generous support.
