Corrine Larson

November 24, 1927 – July 23, 2025

Our beautiful mother, Corrine Larson, left this world on July 23, at the age of ninety seven. She was born November 24, 1927, in Miami, Florida to Theron and Charlotte Houghtaling. Along with big sister, Delphine, the family moved to the Pacific Northwest and settled in Seattle. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945, and the University of Washington in 1948, with a degree in English. In 1954, she met the love of her life, Allen Larson, and they married in 1955. The couple moved to Mercer Island in 1956, where they raised three children.

Corrine spent much of her life serving others. In 1952, at the age of 24, she entered the United States Foreign Service and was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan for two years. This extraordinary experience stuck with her for the rest of her life. Years later she still loved to share letters that she had written to her parents during that time. Corrine was happy to be of service in any way she could, including volunteering at her children’s schools, or helping friends and neighbors in need.

Corrine thoroughly enjoyed studying Latin in school and would occasionally recite Latin poems from memory. In fact, her memory was so sharp that she could remember every personal detail about everyone she met. She played a mean game of bridge, loved cooking for her gourmet club, and of course, she absolutely doted on her grandchildren.

Corrine was preceded in death by husband, Allen, and survived by her children, Brent (Tobi), Betsey Adum (Peter), and Amy Bernard (CJ); grandchildren, Mallory, Dennis, Jimmy, Nikki, and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Della, Forrest, and Levi.
