MARGUERITE VAN ZANDT KOVACS

Marguerite Van Zandt Kovacs, born in Tampa, FL on Oct 17th, 1926, passed away with family by her side on April 14, 2019. She was a long-time resident of Mercer Island, WA. Marge grew up in New Hyde Park, NY and graduated from New York University with a BS and MA degree in Teaching. She believed in the power of knowledge, and instilled a passion for education in her family. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and traveled back to NY to attend her 50th year graduation from NYU and class reunion with her sisters.

Marge was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she actively volunteered and participated in many capacities. She was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying bowling, working on crafts, playing bridge, and doing the daily sudoku puzzle. Marge was a member of many fraternal and social groups. She was Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star #248, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ladies Shrine, and a member of the Mercer Island Historical Society and Eastside Genealogical Society.

Marge was loving, kind and considerate to the end and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward who died in February 2004 and grandson Roger Kovacs, Jr in June 2012. Marge and Ed were married for 54 years and enjoyed many travels throughout the US and abroad together.

Marguerite was the loving mother of sons Charles of Mercer Island WA, and Roger (Frankie) of Gulfport MS; daughter Laura of Bellevue WA; grandson Andrew (Jessica) and great grand-daughter Lily of Manassas VA. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.

A date for the celebration of her life at Emmanuel Episcopal Church will be announced in the future.
