Monday, May 30, is Memorial Day. It is a day set aside to remember those who have died in the service of our country. It is a day to honor and remember our dead regardless of our convictions about the necessity or morality of any war.

When you live on an island you have a unique appreciation for the importance of bridges. Remember when the I-90 bridge opened in1993? What a community celebration we had — a ribbon-cutting, a 5K run, a dance, fireworks. Because we live on an island, we know what a great thing it is to open a new, expanded bridge to our community.
Water. Even though we inhabit an island surrounded by it, we probably don’t think about it too much. Even Islanders need to be reminded of how precious and finite a resource clean water is for consumption and recreation. Along with the public agencies that monitor water, we all need to be stewards of this critical resource.
