The decision of the school district and the City of Mercer Island to use part of an existing playfield at Island Park Elementary School to expand and improve access to the school is correct. The change, discussed for years, is an overdue matter of safety for students, their parents, staff and the hundreds of drivers who use Island Crest Way, the busiest main street on the Island, each day.

The School Board is set to vote on Thursday whether to proceed to a second phase on the Boys & Girls Club’s proposal to build a $14 million teen center on the school district’s North Mercer campus.

You can recycle just about anything at the City of Mercer Island’s annual Spring Recycling Event, even the kitchen sink as long as it’s porcelain (and toilets, too).
I am very pleased that we finished the 2005 Legislative Session on time — one of the few times in our state’s 116 years of existence. I’ve finally recovered from the late nights of work, and I’m especially happy to spend some quality time back home with my family and my dogs.
