Cupic brothers display state title rings

Special to the Reporter

The family of Mercer Island brothers Austin and Kyle Cupic recently celebrated the boys’ two Mercer Island High School (MIHS) 3A state championships as part of the Islanders’ baseball and soccer teams.

Austin (class of ‘23) won a state title in baseball in 2022 and Kyle (class of ‘26) won a state title in soccer in 2025. Kyle just received his championship ring to spark the celebration.

“It was really fun to watch and celebrate with my brother as his team advanced and won state. I was home from college (University of San Francisco) and got to help cheer him on. We are both very competitive with each other so it was fun to watch him succeed,” said Austin.

Added Kyle: “Watching my brother and his friends win started me thinking about my team and their chances. Being a co-captain was great and winning with my friends and teammates was so much fun. Our team motto was ‘one team, one dream, one state championship.’”

The boys noted that they were grateful for their teammates and parents for their dedication and time given toward their individual, but divergent sports goals.
