Mercer Island wrestling advanced two wrestlers from the 3A regional championships last weekend at Kelso High School.
Seniors Taylan Yuasa and Evan Condon advanced to next weekend’s Mat Classic in Tacoma. Yuasa was runner-up in the 113 division, falling in the final to North Central’s Clai Quintanilla by 15-5 decision. Condon was runner-up in the 195 division, earning three pins before suffering a dislocated finger and falling in the final by injury default to Shadle Park’s Ryan Burnett.
Nic Meinzinger-Richards will go to the state tournament as a fifth-place alternate, after taking fifth in the 160 division.
Also competing for Mercer Island at the regional tournament were Johan Andrews (106), Scott Lee (132), Trevor Gullstad (138), Finn Childress (152), Kyle Hsu (152), Malachi Morgan (160), Brian Wen (170), Russell Asmus (182), Teague Frazier (182) and Dylan Majewski (285).
The 2015 Mat Classic XXVII will take place Feb. 20-21 at the Tacoma Dome.
