Islanders complete season sweep of rival Wolverines

For the first time since 2010, the Mercer Island Islanders boys water polo team nabbed a season sweep against the rival Bellevue Wolverines in the pool.

The Islanders registered a 15-7 victory against the Wolverines on Oct. 11. Mercer Island conquered Bellevue 8-2 in September. In the most recent matchup, the Islanders dominated ball possession logging 16 steals while shooting 64 percent from the field. Mercer Island built a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Sammy Vacca scored a game-high six goals in the win. Sam Nair added three goals and Evan Hill chipped in two goals. Goalie Will Cero had 10 saves in the contest. Mercer Island currently has an overall record of 11-4 overall, 8-1 in league. The Islanders will resume league play against the Roosevelt Roughriders on Oct. 23.
