Mercer Island outlasts Redmond in PKs in KingCo tourney matchup | Prep girls soccer

The Mercer Island girls soccer team survived the Redmond Mustangs in penalty kicks to win its KingCo 3A tournament loser-out matchup 2-1 Saturday night at Mercer Island High School.

Camryn Steiner gave the Islanders (9-6-2) a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal off an assist from Nicole Mandt in the 39th minute. Redmond’s Tessa Fujisaki evened the game for the Mustangs (9-6-3) in the 68th minute, scoring off an assist from Natalie Daub.

Mercer Island will take on the Lake Washington Kangs (11-5-1) in another loser-out matchup Tuesday at Lake Washington High School. Game time is still to be determined. The winner will move on to a Metro crossover that will take place Nov. 3. The Islanders lost both of their conference games against the Kangs this season.
