Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled the Mercer Island baseball team past Bellevue 3-2 Wednesday night at Island Crest Park.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled the Mercer Island baseball team past Bellevue 3-2 Wednesday night at Island Crest Park.

The Islanders (15-3, 15-2 in KingCo) trailed the Wolverines (7-12, 6-11) throughout the contest leading up to that point, with a 2-run homer from Reagan Teagarden in the top of the first inning putting Bellevue in control.

Mercer Island got on the board in the bottom of the second off an RBI double from Alex Shanks. The Islanders tied the game in the sixth inning with Jack Smith reaching base off of a Bellevue error, scoring Lucas Chapman. Next in the order, Shanks brought in the winning run with a sacrifice grounder.

Peter Lopes improved to 5-0 from the mound for Mercer Island on Wednesday, allowing two runs off five hits while striking out four in a complete-game effort.

The victory marked Mercer Island’s ninth-straight win. The Islanders will try to make it 10 in a row in their KingCo finale Friday against Juanita at Island Crest Park. Game begins at 7:15 p.m.
