Girls tennis sweeps Juanita
The Mercer Island girls tennis team picked up its fourth-straight meet win and second in two days, sweeping Juanita 7-0 Tuesday at Mercer Island High School.
In singles, Sarah Sweet outlasted Angela Lothian 6-2, 7-6. Grace Bethards won over Sara Subo 6-1, 6-2. Kimia Preston defeated Sheer Shalon 6-1, 6-1 and Caroline Harkins picked up the sweep in the No. 4 singles match.
In doubles, Caroline Hamilton and Sammy Sweet defeated Maheen Keshani and Odsuren Enkhbaatar 6-0, 6-0. Miji Suhr and Claire Mansfield won over Lilly LeBlanc and Maggie Jiang 6-0, 6-0, and Fiona Brasfield and Chloe Gage beat Mylien Truong and Aili Duke 6-0, 6-0.
Mercer Island will host Lake Washington at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at MIHS before finishing the regular season next Tuesday at Bellevue.
Boys soccer holds off Lake Washington
The Mercer Island boys soccer team kept its perfect league record in tact, holding off Lake Washington 3-2 Tuesday night at Islander Stadium.
The Islanders (11-1-1, 9-0-0 in KingCo) claimed a 3-0 advantage at halftime, getting goals from Austin Taylor in the 18th minute, Jules Vandebospoort in the 35th minute and Hunter Bauman just before the half.
The Kangs (5-8-1, 4-5-1) came back with goals from Tom Veldee in the 50th minute and Alex Lundin in the 70th minute, though wouldn’t score the rest of the way.
The win further separates Mercer Island for 2A/3A KingCo’s top seed, with three league contests remaining. The Islanders host Sammamish at 7:30 p.m. Friday at MIHS, then travel to Liberty next Tuesday before finishing the regular season at home against Bellevue next Thursday.
