Several former players with the Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club have earned state and national awards.

Corey Goelz was named to the 3A All-State girls high school soccer team. The goalie was named to the team by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.

Goelz began her career with the MIYSC, before playing with the Eastside FC, the premier club affiliated with MIYSC. She has continued to play with Eastside FC, currently as a member of the FC girls U18 team. She will play soccer for Pomona College in LA next fall.

MIHS seniors Laura Harrison was named to the All-State second team, and Marissa Hammerstrom was given honorable mention. Both played with MIYSC and local premier clubs. Hammerstrom has also served as a girls coach for MIYSC for several years. Hammerstrom plans to play soccer for Occidental College in the fall.

MIHS senior Jordan Morris earned national recognition after being named the Gatorade Washington State boys player of the year for all high school classifications in 2012. He is playing with the Seattle Sounders Reserve team and will play for Stanford University in the fall.

MIYSC has provided soccer opportunities for youth on Mercer Island for over 35 years and has had nearly 1,000 players in it’s recreational programs. The club’s select program, Mercer Island FC, has consistently produced top placing teams in the state.
