MICC men’s tennis team heads to national competition

The Mercer Island Country Club, Seattle Tennis Club men’s 5.0, which qualified for the United States Tennis Association League’s adult national championships in August, will head to California in October for a chance to win it all.

The Mercer Island Country Club, Seattle Tennis Club men’s 5.0, which qualified for the United States Tennis Association League’s adult national championships in August, will head to California in October for a chance to win it all.

The 2009 USTA championships, which will be held on Oct. 2-4 in Indian Wells, Calif., is the final stopping place for teams which posted the best records in their division throughout the 17 sections of the United States that the USTA represents.

Members of the Mercer Island-Seattle combined team include: Vivek Varma, captain, Robert Vincent, Andrew Elling, Kerry Bucklin, Tim Larson, Matthew Frank, Brian Murphy, John Foster, Rob Condiotty and David Maeser.

The national tournament uses a flighted round robin format. Matches will be decided by a team winning the best of two tie-break sets with a match tie-break if required. The USTA League, established in 1904, is the world’s largest recreational tennis league with a national championship event.
