MIHS grad named NWC student athlete of the week

Mercer Island High School graduate Charlotte Graham, currently attending her freshman year Whitman College in Walla Walla, was named NWC student athlete of the week for women’s swimming.

Whitman women’s swimming team is currently 5-0 in dual meets this season, capped by a 125-80 win over Lewis & Clark College of Portland last Friday where Graham finished first in the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Graham also swims as the anchor on the 400 freestyle relay team, with Lauren Flynn, Katie Chapman and Helen Jenne, which won with a time of 3:50.07.

Since joining the team Graham has won 10 individual events and taken part in eight winning relay victories. The 400 freestyle team recently broke a 17-year-old school record, and the same weekend broke the school’s 200 freestyle relay record. Already this season Graham’s best 100 backstroke time ranks her second on the school’s all-time Top 10 list for the event and was only two seconds short of the school record set in 2006. She is also fourth place in the all-time school list for the 100 and 200 freestyle events, and fifth place in the 500 freestyle.
