The Seattle National Adult Baseball Association (NABA) is turning back the clock on the national pastime.
Players are invited to try out to partake in some old-school baseball — 19th century style. They will be meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in July, starting July 1, at Aubrey Davis Park. There is no cost for this initial month.
“Seattle NABA and the Beavers Ball Club are looking for history buffs, and baseball fans to come play ball with us as we try to re-discover the origins of the sport,” reads a Mercer Island Historical Society newsletter about the establishment of the Seattle area’s first vintage baseball club.
While hitting the basepaths, the club will begin its vintage journey by learning the 1864 rules.
“This means players can expect physical demands a little higher than slowpitch softball. Underhand pitching, one-hop catches counting for outs, and no gloves allowed,” reads the newsletter.
