Softball falls to Bellevue | Prep notebook

Softball

The Mercer Island girls softball team fell to Bellevue on Tuesday afternoon. The final score was 18-5.

The Wolverines started off the first inning at bat and made the most of their time there, scoring five runs before the Islanders took to the plate. Bellevue held Mercer Island scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Islanders earned three runs, followed in the fifth by two. The Islanders had four errors in the game.

The team travels to play Garfield this afternoon (venue changed) at Bobby Morris Field at Seattle Central Community College, and will travel to Liberty on Monday.

Boys soccer

The Mercer Island boys soccer team beat Interlake 5-1 on Tuesday night. The team is now 4-2-2 this season,

David Yount started things off for the Islanders off an assist from James Kashima in the 19th minute of the game. Danny Strome followed not long later after a pass from Jene Wook-Shin in the 28:00 minute. Interlake connected Andy Fordyce and Christian Rodriguez for the Saints lone goal in the 30th minute.

After the half the Islanders went on the offensive early in the second half to add two more goals to the final score. Nick Ward scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute and five minutes later was followed by Strome’s second goal of the night off an assist from Yount.

The team will play at Juanita on Friday night, starting at 7:30 p.m. and will travel to Bellevue next Friday.
