Island Synagogue to host event on history, marriage

Island Synagogue will host a conversation with Islanders Michael and Dr. Diane Medved on “recognizing God’s hand in history, your marriage, and more” from 7-8 p.m. on Nov. 2. The event is free and open to the public.

Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio host with 5 million listeners and author of “The American Miracle: Divine Providence in the Rise of the Republic.” Diane Medved is a psychologist and the author most recently of the book “Don’t Divorce: Powerful Arguments for Saving and Revitalizing Your Marriage.”

According to the event description: “The Yiddish word “bashert” means destiny. It’s often used by Jews to describe the sense that their marriage was somehow pre-ordained. Americans have a similar idea that our nation’s history follows a divinely determined direction, often worked out in eerie ways. Of course, lots of couples come to feel that their marriage maybe wasn’t destined all. And not everyone agrees that America’s pursuit of a manifest destiny has been for the good. Who’s right? Is destiny real, or just something we imagine?”

With KTTH’s new morning radio host Todd Herman as moderator, Michael and Diane Medved will lead the audience in a candid and eye-opening discussion.

The Medveds will sign copies of their books after the program. All proceeds support the work of Island Synagogue.
