O’Connor will discuss ovarian cancer resources at May 7 Rotary meeting

Molly O’Connor, CEO of the Rivkin Center, will discuss “Ovarian Cancer Resources with Mercer Island Roots” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on May 7 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St. The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. An optional buffet lunch is available for purchase.

May 8 is World Ovarian Cancer Day. Founded three decades ago, the Rivkin Center is one of the world’s oldest nonprofits dedicated to ovarian cancer research and awareness. Dr. Saul Rivkin, longtime Mercer Island resident and now-retired Swedish Hospital oncologist, was driven to put a spotlight on this disease and raise money for a cure after losing his wife and mother to his five daughters to ovarian cancer when she was just 49.

O’Connor will share how the Rivkin Center fundamentally changed how ovarian cancer research is funded and talked about far beyond the Pacific Northwest. She will also walk through the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, how this cancer can be genetically linked to other cancers, and where to find answers and community if diagnosed.
