The Mercer Island High School football team dropped its second consecutive football game and all but ended their playoff hopes with a 42-21 loss to the Newport Knights Friday.

The Knights built a 28-0 lead before the Mercer Island offense got on track. The Islander’s first score came half way through the third quarter as running back Timothy Wettack scored a touchdown on a one-yard run. Newport added another touchdown on a big 43-yard run to close out the third period.

Islander running back Morgan Anthony duplicated the Knights score as he snuck free from behind his offensive line for a 42-yard touchdown sprint. Anothony scored again during the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run to pull the Islanders within 14 points. But Newport put the game out of reach on a long drive and four yard touchdown score.

The Islanders travel to Interlake Friday and take on the Saints at 7:30 p.m. Interlake was destroyed by Bellevue Friday 62-7.
