MI Community Fund and YFS partner for ‘camperships’

Summer camp scholarships for Mercer Island families in need are now available, thanks to a new partnership between the Mercer Island Community Fund (MICF) and Youth and Family Services.
Eligible Islanders can receive partial financial support for youth day camps, called “camperships,” for this summer. The MICF increased its grant for the YFS program, allowing for more camperships to be awarded.
“Camperships allow low-income parents the ability to provide a camp experience for their kids that they might not otherwise be able to afford. Helping struggling families afford camps also reduces the chance that parents will have to choose between earning a pay check and staying home to provide day care,” said Cheryl Manriquez, family assistance and employment coordinator for YFS.
