New singing group forms on Mercer Island

Published 12:48 pm Wednesday, June 22, 2011

“Those who wish to sing will find a song” — Plato knew what he was talking about. But interested singers need to know where to look, and there’s a new outlet in the works for women to check out.

Northwest Spirit is a women’s a cappella chorus just forming on Mercer Island under the direction of Zoe Thompson.

The chorus meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday evening at Mercer Island Congregational Church, located at 4545 Island Crest Way.

Zoe Thompson is a Sweet Adeline Master Director whose experience and background in the organization are one of a kind. She directed Lakeside Chorus for 25 years and led the group to many regional championships and several top five international medals. She is a director, coach and teacher.

Northwest Spirit’s goal is to build a quality chorus, and to develop a group of dedicated singers who will perform with the best of them. The barbershop sound is unique harmonically and vocal training in the craft is an important part of Northwest Spirit’s agenda. Any woman is invited to visit Northwest Spirit’s rehearsals at any time.
