Rotary Islanders of October

Mercer Island High School students Jonathan Lo and Leila Mozaffarian have been named as the Rotary Islanders of October.

Before coming to Mercer Island High School, Lo attended school in Shanghai, China, where he won the Shanghai American School Principal’s Award for excelling in academics, athleticism, leadership and spirit. He also received two service awards for teaching English to underprivileged children in Taiwan.

The son of Ti-fei and Tiffany Lo, Jonathan is the president of the National Honor Society at MIHS. He is also the president of the Kids Corps volunteer tutoring service, public relations ASB officer, and Mercer Island Debate Team public forum co-captain. He is a member of the Senior Service Club, International Club, and Key Club, a volunteer club.

He has participated in multiple sports — varsity soccer, football, basketball. He is currently a co-captain of varsity volleyball.

A speaker of both English and Mandarin, Lo intends to enter into international business or business law between China and the United States. He is applying to six colleges.

Mozaffarian plays basketball and tennis, and practices karate. She is a facilitator for the symphonic orchestra and plays in the advanced steel drum band. For her senior culminating project, she is raising funds for building shelters in Iran to house needy children, and she plans to help with their construction. The daughter of Zohreh Mozaffarian, she is a Senior Service Club officer, Kids Corps volunteer, and a member of the National Honor Society, Relay for Life Committee, International Club and SAVE. She intends to study business in college.

Lo and Mozaffarian are both BRIDGES leaders.
