Zaw Pizza opens on Mercer Island

Artisan bake-at-home pizza has arrived in downtown Mercer Island. Tucked into a cozy space in Tabit Village Square, Zaw Pizza offers handcrafted pizzas and salads with organic ingredients.
There are now six restaurants offering pizza on the Island.
Zaw is a small chain begun by two Canadian men. The name “zaw is slang for pizza in Canada,” according to shop manager Michel DeBange.
Zaw has participated in the Mercer Island Farmers Market.
Zaw’s menu offers the option of gluten-free, whole wheat or traditional white crusts with selections ranging from an Arugula Patch pizza to Roasted Veg Head, to My Big Fat Greek Pizza. The shop also has a variety of Northwestern wines and microbrews and offers salads that will feed two to three.
According to Zaw’s website, “We relish in ‘In-House’ preparing as much as we can (even when we don’t need to prepare any relish). By preparing our own sauces and dressings and other items, we can utilize ingredients that fit our SOUL guidelines and keep us incredibly fresh — and cut down on an amazing amount of shipping and packaging as well.”
‘Soul’ is Zaw’s slogan for seasonal, organic, unique and local.
Mercer Island is Zaw’s first location outside of Seattle, where they have shops in Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, Queen Anne, Wallingford and Wedgwood.
The shop opened just six weeks ago.
Customers can pick up their orders at Zaw, as the store does not do deliveries on the Island.
Hours are 1 to 9:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday; and 1 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
