The Mercer Island High School baseball season came to a close on Tuesday afternoon. The Islanders, playing in the KingCo tournament, lost 7-2 to Liberty.

The game started with the Islanders at bat, and up second in the batting order, Nick Holstead hit a triple, making his way home for a 1-0 lead. The lead, however, was short lived, when Liberty scored six runs in their first turn at bat.

The game remained without any additional runs until the bottom of the fourth when Liberty scored for a 7-1 lead. The Islanders added a run in the top of the fifth, but couldn’t get the seven runs needed to take the lead.

Holstead scored, and was 1-4 at bat, while Matt Orehek was 2-3 at the plate. Alex Himstead was 2-4, Mack Schlamp was 1-3 and Nick Chandler scored the team’s second run, going 1-2 at the plate.

The Islanders had seven hits during the game, while Liberty had 10 hits for seven runs.

Patriot pitcher Ben Wessel was credited with the win, while Hunter Goldberg took the loss.

The Islanders were 8-12 overall this season.
