Seventy-eight children are attending Vacation Bible School at the Mercer Island Covenant Church this week. Each day begins with songs and stories, then basketball, drama and crafts with a snack break, and soccer in Mercerdale Park.

The theme is “Off The Bench” with 1 Peter 3:15, which says, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have … do this with gentleness and respect.”

“This is my fifth year, and it always proves to be the best week of the summer. The kids are so full of excitement,” said Tanya Avilez, a co-director. “We get to share God’s love with the children in the community while having lots of fun.”

Seventy-five volunteers are serving altogether.
