Island girls basketball team wins travel league tournament | Community sports

The Mercer Island girls 6th grade select basketball team capped off a winning season by capturing the Puget Sound Travel League silver division tournament championship on Sunday, March 9 at Juanita High School. With eight teams competing, the girls remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Team members include Mari Hanan, Maya Groh, Flora Mehdi, Grace Shaddle, Beatrice Chang, Maggie McGuire, Maya Kenck, Scarlett Counihan, Joy Francke and Molly Moffitt. The team is coached by Earl Higgins Jr.
