The Mercer Island School District announced Mercer Island schools will be in session Monday, Oct. 6. The announcement comes after the City of Mercer Island reported its latest test results from water samples collected Thursday have been analyzed and are clear. All 15 samples revealed no presence of E. coli or Total Coliform, though the boil-water advisory is still in place.
The next round of test results is expected to be analyzed and released by 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. The district plans to send a notice to parents and publish it online at www.mercerislandschools.org later that same day. The district is prepared to maintain operations on Monday with continued use of bottled water, temporary washing stations, hand sanitizer and “heat-and-eat” meals, if necessary.
“Our students, staff and parents have done a tremendous job of working around this situation and focusing on learning today,” said Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano in the release. “The district is committed to keeping our schools in session and we will continue to study the results of water testing with the City of Mercer Island and Department of Health and make plans accordingly.”
After-school activities will continue as scheduled unless notified otherwise.
Calls to St. Monica School, the French American School of Puget Sound, Little Acorn and Country Village Day School indicated those schools would follow MISD’s direction as well.
