Islanders advance two to state tournament | Prep boys golf

Mercer Island boys golf saw both of its district golfers advance to the state tournament after strong showings at the 3A District 2 Tournament Monday, Oct. 20.
Will Mansfield and Zach Evens both placed in the top 20 at Snohomish Golf Course Monday, Oct. 20 to move on to the state meet. Both shot a 77, tying for an 11th place finish. Interlake’s Grant Cole won the district’s individual title, shooting a 3-under-par 69. Cole was the only 3A golfer to shoot under par.
As a team, Mercer Island placed sixth overall with a score of 17. Bainbridge took the day’s top spot, scoring 44.9, while KingCo rival Interlake placed fourth with a team score of 30.1.
Mansfield and Evens will have plenty of time to refine their games before the state tournament in the spring. The boys golf 3A state championship will take place May 27-28 at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick.
