Islanders get set to dive from the dock or wade from the beach into Lake Washington at Clarke Beach on New Year’s Day. Organizer Nile Clarke, at far right,  calls the countdown.


The group stands for a triumphant portrait after the plunge. The furry mascot at front left, declined to get in the water.


At noon, the air temperature was 36 degrees, the water temperature was 48.
