Boys swim beats Newport
Mercer Island boys swim and dive won its fourth competition in just over a week, beating Newport 114-72 Tuesday at Mary Wayte Pool. The Islanders had winners in ten events, winning the 200 medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Ben Gore won the 200 IM (2:06.68) and the 500 freestyle (5:11.64), and Joseph Li won the 50 freestyle (22.75) and 100 freestyle (50.55). Oliver Hoff won the 200 freestyle (1:52.89), Benjamin Dixon won the diving event (226.10) and Andrew Fukuda won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.57)
Next up, the Islanders take on Woodinville at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Juanita Pool in Kirkland.
Boys hoops fall to Bellevue
In a matchup between KingCo’s top two teams, Mercer Island boys basketball suffered its first league loss of the season, losing to Bellevue 62-46 Tuesday night at Mercer Island High School. The Wolverines (11-2, 6-0) held Mercer Island (9-5, 5-1) to eight third-quarter points while extending a two-point advantage to double digits. The Islanders will try to bounce back Friday against Liberty. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. at MIHS.
