KMIH radio best in Washington state

For the second year in a row, Mercer Island High School’s radio station, KMIH-FM, won the General Excellence Award at the Washington State High School Radio Awards.
“Congratulations to these students and to their teacher, Charlie Hilen, General Manager of KMIH-FM,” said Mercer Island School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano. “Our students have so many different passions, and it is wonderful to see them get the recognition they deserve when they pursue those academic passions outside of the traditional classroom environment.”
In addition to the General Excellence Award, students earned 13 individual awards, including:

“I am so excited to see these students earn these awards,” said Hilen. “They are amazingly talented and work incredibly hard to make sure the station is running every day. This is a great accomplishment for the station and program.”
The goal of the Washington State High School Radio Awards is to provide radio broadcasting students in Washington with a comprehensive awards event in which prepared news, production, on-air performance, and public service components are judged in accordance with industry standards. At the same time, students have the opportunity to meet and visit with industry professionals who serve as mentors and event judges.
