Mercer Island athletes compete at USATF Region 13 track and field championships in Tacoma

Mercer Island Islanders track athletes Susie Lepow, Maya Virdell and Eli Yen competed for Speed Unlimited (track program) at the 2019 USATF Region 13 Junior Olympic track and field championships from July 5-7 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

Virdell earned fifth place in the 400 hurdles and first place in the 1600 relay (17-18 age group). Lepow nabbed fourth place in the pole vault and the 400 hurdles. Lepow also earned third place in the 1600 relay (15-16 age group). Yen captured sixth place in the discus (17-18 age group). More than 80 USATF teams from Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Oregon competed at the three-day event.
