Mercer Island residents Austin Cupic, Marques Abulhosn and Max Clark competed at the Perfect Game MLK Championship West Showcase for Freshman from Jan. 17-20 in Phoenix, Arizona. The invite-only tournament was held at the Camelback Ranch, the spring training facility for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. Cupic and Abulhosn both competed with the Pac Northwest navy team, which lost in the final to a team from Las Vegas. Clark played for the Pac Northwest freshman team, going 2-2 and missing out on the elimination playoff. Cupic received an all-tournament award for pitching, after getting six strikeouts in seven innings and one earned run during two of their wins.
